Kuwait, nestled in the northern corner of the Persian Gulf, offers a surprising blend of modernity and tradition. This small yet vibrant country is a melting pot of cultures, with expats making up 70% of its population.
Whether you’re drawn to the history, the culture, the architecture, or intrigued by its storied past, Kuwait has so much to offer the curious traveler. I personally wanted to learn more about the Iraq-Kuwait war, but I got so much more than I bargained for in Kuwait!
In this guide, I’m going to cover the top 12 things to do in Kuwait, so that you can have an unforgettable visit, too.

1. Take a Half Day Tour of Kuwait
Starting your visit with a half-day tour of Kuwait is a great way to get your bearings. This is the exact tour that I took, and I can’t recommend it enough!
This tour not only covers Kuwait City’s major landmarks, but it also takes you into Kuwait’s desert and to the beach, where I got to meet some happy camels and see a beautiful sunset.
Walid was an excellent guide and was happy to answer all of my questions about Kuwait. I got a comprehensive overview of the city’s layout and history, for sure! And, he is willing to customize, meaning you can skip or add at will.

2. Visit the Kuwait Towers for Incredible Views
The Kuwait Towers are an iconic symbol of the country, even making an appearance on their entry stamp. Basically, they are a must see!
The main tower houses a revolving observation deck and a restaurant, providing visitors with a 360-degree view. It’s a perfect spot to capture breathtaking photos and appreciate the city’s skyline.
The towers offer stunning panoramic views of Kuwait City and its coastline, and currently cost only 3 Kuwaiti Dinar (under $10USD) to enter. Honestly, before going up, I didn’t realize just how beautiful the views would be. It is definitely worth the price!

3. Explore the Mirror House
Step into an entire world of reflective art at the Mirror House, created by Italian artist Lidia Al-Qattan. The artist still lives inside the house, so tours must be arranged in advance, here.
This incredibly unique attraction features intricate mirror mosaics covering the walls, ceilings, and floors. Each room has a different theme, from outer space to marine life, making it a fascinating experience as you meander room to room.
And, Lidia herself leads the tours, which gives deeper insight into what she was thinking as she worked. I was completely blown away, and the Mirror House quickly became one of my top things to see in Kuwait.
4. Walk through Souq Al Mubarakiya
Souq Al Mubarakiya is one of the oldest markets in Kuwait, offering a glimpse into the locals’ daily lives. Here, you can find everything from traditional clothing and spices to souvenirs and jewelry.
The bustling atmosphere, combined with the aroma of local delicacies, makes it a must-visit spot for an authentic Kuwaiti experience.
Pro Tip: I stayed at this hotel for my entire visit in Kuwait, and it is walking distance to the Souq. So, I got to enjoy most meals at the Souq, like falafel and fatayer, at dirt cheap prices. Yes, even in expensive Kuwait!
5. Sail to Failaka Island
For a change of pace, consider taking a day trip to Failaka Island. This island offers a mix of history and recreation, with ancient ruins dating back to the Bronze Age alongside modern amenities like a beachside resort and picnic spots.
However, a trip to Failaka Island is not just a vacation stop. Here you will see the devastating ruins from the beginning of the Iraq-Kuwait war, such as the ominous tank graveyard.

I came here to learn more about the war, but additionally got a glimpse into a beautiful island with a tragic past and some of the kindest Kuwaiti people around.
It’s an excellent destination for those looking to explore the lesser-known side of Kuwait’s deep history while enjoying a relaxing day by the sea.
6. See Bedouin Weaving Come to Life at the Sadu House
At Sadu House, you can learn about traditional Bedouin weaving, including how they dyed the wool and how the patterns come to life.
This cultural center showcases intricate textiles and carpets, providing insights into the Bedouin way of life. Outside, on Sadu Street, you can even see a road-mural inspired by traditional weaving patters – easily one of the coolest things to see in Kuwait’s city center.
Visitors can also participate in workshops and purchase unique handmade items, making it a rewarding cultural experience.
7. Visit the Grand Mosque
The Grand Mosque is Kuwait’s largest mosque and a masterpiece of Islamic architecture. With an impressive dome and minaret, the mosque can accommodate up to 10,000 worshippers at once.
Guided tours are available, offering insights into its architectural features and the significance of various elements within the mosque. The tour mentioned above includes a drive by of the mosque, but if you want to see the inside, a booking is a must.
8. Learn the History of the Iraq-Kuwait War at the Martyr’s Museum
You all – this one hits deep. I mentioned that I visited Kuwait to learn more about the war I had heard about as a child (but was too small to understand.)
The Martyr’s Museum provided me with a deep historical insight and in-your-face understanding of the devastating incident. The blown-up bricks and the bullet-ridden vehicles are a poignant reminder of just how recent the Iraq-Kuwait War was.
Through a series of exhibits inside this ravaged structure, visitors can learn about the events of the war and the resilience of the Kuwaiti people.
Definitely ask for the English brochure, because the museum itself has very few placards and you will miss much of the history without it.
It’s a deeply moving experience that highlights the country’s turbulent history.
9. Walk Al Shaheed Park
Al Shaheed Park is certainly a green oasis in the heart of Kuwait City. This expansive park features beautifully landscaped gardens, walking trails, and great views of Kuwait City’s architecture.
It’s a perfect place for a leisurely stroll with the locals, as this is a popular hangout spot, exercise spot, and everything-spot. Al Shaheed is the largest park in the city.
The park is extra beautiful at night, when the buildings are all lit up in vibrant colors. Note that I was traveling Kuwait as a solo female and felt completely safe walking at night.
10. Check Out Liberation Tower
Liberation Tower is one of the tallest telecommunications towers in the world. But, it is also considered a symbol of Kuwait’s liberation from Iraqi occupation.
Although the observation deck is currently closed to the public, the tower’s exterior is still an impressive sight. Its unique design and historical significance make it just as notable a landmark as the Kuwait Towers happen to be.
11. View the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre
The Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre, also known as the Kuwait Opera House, is a hub for the arts. This architectural marvel hosts a variety of performances, from opera and ballet to contemporary music and theater.

The center’s stunning geometric design is outright beautiful, and the world-class facilities make it a focal point for cultural activities in Kuwait. It is especially beautiful at night, lit up in glowing blue lights.
12. Enjoy the Architecture at Seif Palace
Seif Palace is a historic landmark and the official residence of Kuwait’s royal family. It sits within walking distance of the Grand Mosque.
While the palace itself is not open to the public, it has an impressive exterior, featuring traditional Islamic architecture and intricate tile work, contrasted against bright turquoise doors.
It is very beautiful in the daytime! Be sure to walk or drive past at least once.
